Warrior Homesteads Sustainable Living For Veterans Blog Post Title Graphic

A few months ago I was introduced to an incredible man who is on an even more incredible mission. With a military family background, a specific set of skills and a passion to help those in need, Glenn Grootegoed started Warrior Homesteads in an attempt to permanently end veteran homelessness.

Warrior Homesteads is a non profit organization that seeks to tackle the ever increasing problem of veteran homelessness. Glenn describes Warrior Homesteads most readily as, "A community of previously homeless veterans that can rely on each other much like they did once in the military where we give them a truly free home ..."

In my interview with Glenn (link below), we chatted about how those deserving the most help and care many times are neglected for whatever reason. These men and women put their lives on the line and many times return in need of assistance to reintegrate into civilian life

Warrior Homesteads is taking a new and unique approach to ending veteran homelessness and an approach, quite frankly, that can be imitated by anyone seeking to live a simple and sustainable life. Glenn emphasized that the goal is not to throw away all technology and revert back to antiquated farm equipment and forget about electricity.
Those living in the homesteads will have access to modern amenities while also living sustainably growing their own organic food among other things.

At the heart of their mission is to give veterans shelter, food and clothing and purpose. All those who desire to live in the homestead will contribute to the community by working two days a week and the rest of the week is up to them. They can choose to work outside the homestead or whatever else they please.

By requiring those in the homestead to contribute to the general well being of others a sense of community and care will be fostered and will permeate everything that Warrior Homesteads does. The organization seeks to create community for those in need so they can take the time they need to rehabilitate and integrate into society in whatever capacity they see fit.

The key for Glenn and his organization is that these accommodations and assistance will be 100% free and all homesteads will be within bus transport distance of veteran medical services and other services that residents would want to take advantage of.

Another key differentiator will be that residents will never be asked to leave. Those in the homesteads can stay as long as they'd like without pressure to uproot and take off prematurely.

Warrior Homesteads does not claim to be the end all be all solution for veterans but hopes to make a significant impact for those in need and to work alongside other veterans organizations to take care of those who have taken care of us.

In order to truly make this work, each home must be very sustainable in order to keep costs down and scale services to help as many veterans as possible across the United States.

That's where we come in. While Warrior Homesteads is still in the planning phase, they already understand the value of solar power.

Whether it be with foldable, rollable or custom panels. PowerFilm is poised and proud to stand alongside Glenn and Warrior Homesteads and supply affordable solar solutions that are manufactured right here in the United States.
